Make a simple crochet bowl with this chunky t-shirt yarn and my free pattern.  You will love it!

I’m a huge fan of simple crochet projects!  I like to feel like I’ve accomplished something cute in a hour or so.  This is my new favorite, and one bowl can be made in about 30 minutes.  That’s awesome!

Making a crochet bowl is the perfect project for beginners  because you only need to know a few basic stitches.

They make great gifts!  I’m planning to make little sets of 3 for Christmas gifts this year.  Handmade gifts are the best!

You can read about how to make your own t-shirt yarn in an earlier blog post of mine.  It’s a great way to recycle old shirts and turn them into something fabulous!

For this project I wanted to try Lion Brand’s new Fettuccini yarn.  It’s a great alternative to making your own t-shirt yarn.  I bought it at Joann’s, but it doesn’t seem to be available at all of the locations yet.

No Joann’s near you and no old t-shirts?  You can find more t-shirt yarns available on Amazon right here.

How to make a crochet bowl - organize in style -

I’m not an expert at all, so I’ll just explain it like I would if you were sitting next to me having a cup of coffee and crocheting. {That sounds nice!}

Gather a couple things…

Start by making a chain…

  • Chain 3
  • Slip stitch into the first chain you made to create a ring. {photo 1 & 2}
  • Chain 1
  • Single crochet 8 into the center of the ring.
  • Chain 1
  • Single crochet in each stitch – You’ll single crochet 16 for the round. {photo 3}
  • Chain 1
  • Single crochet in the next stitch, single crochet 2 times in the next stitch and repeat the pattern for this row.  You’ll single crochet a total of 24 for this row. {photo 4}

    Hi Kim,

    I love these little bowls and I think I am now inspired to crochet! I did a little search for t-shirt yarn and have not found these pretty colors you have here. Can I ask if that robin’s egg blue color is from Joann’s as well?

      Hi Amy!

      Thanks! The blue came from Joann’s, but they seem to have a varied selection at each store. Most of their locations don’t carry it…which drives me crazy! It’s best to check a super-sized Joann’s…that’s where I found it. Have fun! Their addictive!

    Where did you find the metal/aluminum size P crochet hook?? What brand is it?? I love the bowl. I want to try to make some.

    Thanks for sharing!!

      I found it at Joann’s, but I’ve only seen them in one of the locations. :) You can find another size P hook by clicking on the link in the supply list. I hope that helps! Have fun!

    Beautiful bowls! I guess there is a little mistake in the description of the second single crochet row… First was 8 sc in the ring, then you write sc in each sc to get 16 stitches, so it must be 2 sc in one stitch I suppose?? Now off to get some of my husbands old t-shirts :)

    hey Kim! These bowls are awesome! I don’t suppose you know the name of the yarn colours you used? I spent about an hour last night trying to choose colours of zpagetti yarn and ended up just buying one colour for now :) decided to finish one project before I think about starting another :p
