Free Crochet Bowl Pattern {Get Organized}

Crochet Bowl Pattern {free} on EverythingEtsy.com - Get Organized!

Make a simple crochet bowl with this chunky t-shirt yarn and my free pattern.  You will love it!

I’m a huge fan of simple crochet projects!  I like to feel like I’ve accomplished something cute in a hour or so.  This is my new favorite, and one bowl can be made in about 30 minutes.  That’s awesome!

Making a crochet bowl is the perfect project for beginners  because you only need to know a few basic stitches.

They make great gifts!  I’m planning to make little sets of 3 for Christmas gifts this year.  Handmade gifts are the best!

You can read about how to make your own t-shirt yarn in an earlier blog post of mine.  It’s a great way to recycle old shirts and turn them into something fabulous!

For this project I wanted to try Lion Brand’s new Fettuccini yarn.  It’s a great alternative to making your own t-shirt yarn.  I bought it at Joann’s, but it doesn’t seem to be available at all of the locations yet.

No Joann’s near you and no old t-shirts?  You can find more t-shirt yarns available on Amazon right here.

I’m not an expert at all, so I’ll just explain it like I would if you were sitting next to me having a cup of coffee and crocheting. {That sounds nice!}

Gather a couple things…

  • T-shirt yarn {handmade by you or from the store}
  • Size P-15 crochet hook
  • scissors

Start by making a chain…

  • Chain 3
  • Slip stitch into the first chain you made to create a ring. {photo 1 & 2}
  • Chain 1
  • Single crochet 8 into the center of the ring.
  • Chain 1
  • Single crochet in each stitch – You’ll single crochet 16 for the round. {photo 3}
  • Chain 1
  • Single crochet in the next stitch, single crochet 2 times in the next stitch and repeat the pattern for this row.  You’ll single crochet a total of 24 for this row. {photo 4}

  • Chain 1
  • Single crochet around for two rows and it will look like the photo above.

  • Single crochet around for two more rows {4 total} and it will look like this photo.

  • Slip stitch into the next stitch.
  • Trim away the extra yarn and you’re done.

I think it makes the cutest little crochet bowl ever…if I do say so myself! Smile

    Hi Kim,

    I love these little bowls and I think I am now inspired to crochet! I did a little search for t-shirt yarn and have not found these pretty colors you have here. Can I ask if that robin’s egg blue color is from Joann’s as well?

      Hi Amy!

      Thanks! The blue came from Joann’s, but they seem to have a varied selection at each store. Most of their locations don’t carry it…which drives me crazy! It’s best to check a super-sized Joann’s…that’s where I found it. Have fun! Their addictive!

      I found it at Joann’s, but I’ve only seen them in one of the locations. 🙂 You can find another size P hook by clicking on the link in the supply list. I hope that helps! Have fun!

    Beautiful bowls! I guess there is a little mistake in the description of the second single crochet row… First was 8 sc in the ring, then you write sc in each sc to get 16 stitches, so it must be 2 sc in one stitch I suppose?? Now off to get some of my husbands old t-shirts 🙂

      Yer the pattern didn’t work for me so I did a magic ring and followed the stitch count and then when I got to the bit you mentioned 2 sc in each stitch and then continued following it.

    hey Kim! These bowls are awesome! I don’t suppose you know the name of the yarn colours you used? I spent about an hour last night trying to choose colours of zpagetti yarn and ended up just buying one colour for now 🙂 decided to finish one project before I think about starting another :p

      Hey Claire!

      I just checked to see if the label was on my yarn, but it’s missing. I wish I could help you out!

    I have never crocheted before and I was able to make this (with a little basic help from YouTube). I’m hooked! Your tutorial was amazing!! Thank you! Any advice for making the larger sizes?

    Hi! You are the sweetest person! I love this bowl pattern! I live in a small town so I don’t have access right now and I mean RIGHT NOW, ( I’m very impatient and when I want to make something I want to have everything like yesterday, lol) to buy the t-shirt yarn to make this bowl so I will look at your directions to make my own! I’m like you, I like to see a project finished in a short period of time! Yes, it would be nice to sit down and have a cup of coffee with you and see all the beautiful things you have made! I’m so very glad I found you! Keep on creating and Happy Holidays from Oklahoma!!!! Thank you, Beth Ann Anderson
