Fabric Scrap Inspiration

By Kim Layton 18 Comments

There’s always time for more fabric scrap inspiration!

I’m constantly watching for fun new ideas for fabric scraps and saving them up for future projects.  I seem to have an endless supply of scraps and I don’t even sew that much!  Wasting even the tiniest bit of colorful designer fabric would be a tragedy!

Check out these adorable garden markers from Design Sponge.  Mark where you plant your seeds or bulbs…super cute!

Paul & Paula have shared this amazing fabric scrap mobile…WOW!  I wish I had the patience to create something this fabulous!

You’ll find a sweet hanger makeover on Free People.  This is so much better than the yucky metal hangers I have my poor clothes hanging on!

Lovely love rocks make great conversation starters.   Red Bird Craft shares this rockin’ {couldn’t help myself} tutorial on her blog.

Alright, anyone that knows me knows that this has to be my favorite fabric scrap creation of all time…a fabric scrap map from See Kate Sew!  I could stare at maps all day and when you add fabric…it’s just awesome!

What have you created with your fabric scraps???  Do tell!!

Lovely ideas! I have the same issue but with paper scraps. I have a whole drawer of them and have a plan to somehow incoprate them into my store packaging. I’m sure you can do the same with fabric scraps:)

Oh I love this! And the timing is perfect. I’ve been on a scrap hunt lately. I’m dying to try out some crazy quilt techniques but using them in a different format (instead of a quilt, make inchies or wall hangings).

Now, I couldn’t sew a stitch if I my life depended on it – but I really appreciated all of these idea. That hanger was too cute and I’m CASE-ing the rock idea for something!! {don’t know quite what yet}. Thanks for sharing. Always love your posts.

O’m with Jennifer in that I have “obscene” amounts of paper scraps.

Beautiful! I love the map that is my absolute favorite.

My one and only fabric scrap trick is to make rosettes with them. I love them, but the process burns my fingers!

    Hey Kim,
I love saving up my scraps and then sewing them all together to create one large sheet of fabric. Then use that as the basis for a cool apron or tote bag/zipper bag.

    Waste not want not!

Great ideas! I’m always swimming in scraps. I love the hanger!

I’ve been working on a bunting out of scraps for my sewing room. It’s soon to be a nursery (bittersweet!) so making something for free is a nice way to add some color on the walls. 🙂
