Art Cars –Take Your Art Wherever You Go!

By Kim Layton 6 Comments

Sometimes I’m just so amazed with all the fun and creative ideas that people have…like ART CARS!!!

Now I realize that everyone out there might not want to drive this up to their next appointment, but you have to admit that this little car is just plain cute!

Art Car Central has so many art car photos…this one is named Flutterbug.

Meet Attila, The Fun Art Car by Tish Smith. This van is guranteed to make heads turn wherever you go!

Some people paint brand new cars for auctions and car shows. That’s some serious advertising!

This is a Blues Art Car painted for Honda by artist Jack Poppitz. He’s a self-taught folk artist that is know for painting his folk art on old wood, not CARS! This car was featured in a benefit auction held at the House of Blues.

If you look close enough you can see blues legends like Ray Charles, B.B. King, and more!

Have you figured out how this car is decorated? Take a good look.

It’s a “Car Cozy”…duh! It’s hand knitted and will keep your sweet car warm and cozy during those cold nights. Do you think anyone sells these on Etsy?

This car was painted for a car show to promote GM-Daewoo-Matiz. That’s one way to get attention!

Tons of new cars are getting all decked out. I can’t imagine how long it took to paint this one!

There are festivals just for these fun cars and the artists that create them. Damon Cuccia painted this beauty.

I started researching art cars after visiting Violette’s Blog. She is the wonderful artist that wrote Journal Bliss.

This is Violette’s ride! I love her style, and I think she must have a smile on her face the whole time she’s driving around town. If you enjoy art journals and mixed media, be sure to visit Violette’s site.

I just thought it would be fun to share all these great cars with you…have you ever seen a painted car on the road? I saw one last week, but I didn’t get a good look at it. It seems like you would have to be a nice person to drive one of these, doesn’t it?

So, the next time you have a car in need of a paint job you might want to take care of it yourself!

My favorite part? The “Blues” icons are all painted blue.

There is an art car parade in Houston every spring, and it is lots of fun! I have some of the most interesting pictures!

There’s a car around here that my son calls the “scary car” because it’s got mannequin parts glued on it and is painted and written on. Looks like a lot of work!

Hey thank you Kim for posting the photo of my Glittergirl van and for your kind words! I had the best adventures tooling around Canada and the States with my van. I think the inspiring words, fun colours and glitter made people smile! Unfortunately it is now languishing in my driveway…..anyone want to buy a glittergirl van? It’s been sitting there for over a year :(. I know Tish Smith…….she is an amazing artist and created a gorgeous van! Hey if you are in the Washington area you can watch the art car parade in Seattle in June every year……i was there for a couple of years and had a blast! xo

    Love, Violette xo

This would be a good thing for Chatham that would enhance the Retro Fest with all the old classic cars. Associated with RM Classic Cars and RM Restorations.
