Small & Organized Workspace Inspiration

By Kim Layton 12 Comments

I love cool ideas for small workspaces!  This creative spot would be perfect in so many homes, even as just an extra spot near the kitchen. {For those moments when creativity strikes, but you’re cooking dinner…ha!}

Get the Look

  • A small folding table works well in tight spaces.
  • Magazine Holders look nice and neat, but keep everything in reach.
  • Large letters and numbers make great accent pieces.  You can find these at craft stores and paint them to match your decor!  {And they’re cheap!!!}
  • Corkboard squares are easy to find and look great with some handmade push pins to hold up your inspiration.
  • Print large numbers or tags in matching colors that look fabulous and help organize.
  • Decoupage or paint old jars to hold pencils or paint brushes.
  • Steal a chair from the other room or find one at a garage sale.
  • Vintage wire baskets look great as garbage cans!
  • Add a small plant and a few other goodies to make you smile.

You now have a sweet and simple little workspace without spending a ton or taking over the guest room. 🙂

Why search for magazine holders?!  Here’re a few ideas for magazine holders that might help you get that look a little faster…

Want to make some on your own?  Check out this great tutorial from Sits Girls and make as many as you need!

This is a fun weekend project that doesn’t involve painting the whole room and building a desk…ha!

Do you have a whole room of your own to get crafty with, or do you use the corner of your room?  I’d love to hear about it!

    Sometimes the simplest ideas evade you until you see someone else do it and then there’s the facepalm moment followed y, “of course why didn’t I think of that!” I just did this with the cereal box magazine holder idea. Also I love the letter holder too.

    I don’t have anything that is so adorable as that picture! I usually end up heading over to a friend’s house for a crafty sewing day because I’m a sewcial sewista who likes to be around other people to be inspired. LOVE that room though and the wallpaper!

    The room looks great. I think that numbers are a wonderful accent and the magazine holders look like they would be great addition to my space. I am fortunate enough to have an entire room for my sewing right now. I am still working on making it inspirational! Thanks for the post.

    I love the idea of putting a small worktable in the busy room of the home- that way you can participate in family time and work on project- or work on small projects while you’re cooking, of course. I’m definitely going to try that out when we move. Right now I work in the main room of our home- the connected kitchen and living room. The kitchen table is covered with my craft supplies and my desktop computer is 15 feet away in my living room. I’m in the process of renovating and cleaning out our “back room” to turn it into my private work space- but don’t know if I’ll actually get to it before we move later in the year or early next year.

    I love this space and is just what I need. Could you please tell me where you found that table? I looked on-line, but everything I am finding looks like it belongs in a school (ug)….Thanks so much for the inspiration!

    Debbie,

    If you know of a local wood craftsman, you may be able to show him a picture. It looks like it would be easy to build- but then again I don’t have any carpentry skills. Yet.

    The arrangement at the top with the old fashioned typewriter sitting on the desk is great.Like the colors as well as the texture of the chair.

    I have a great studio. It is 28 X 14. I have my sewing machine, cutting table, ironing surface, book cases, quilt racks, fabric storage and bookcases for books, magazines etc. It is pretty organized,but could use a little more cuteness. One thing I did that I think is kinda of unique is I hung a rod over my fabric storage shelves and then I use drapery rings to hang quilts. It gives me one more place to hang a quilt and covers my fabric storage when I am not using them. I will send pics if you like.
    I love the ideas on this page and would love to have such cute magazine holders. To die for!
