Meet Miss Buttercup
She is modeling a lovely collar handmade by Pipsqueak and Petunia! Buttercup walked the runway {our dock} yesterday showing off her beautiful collar in a fashionable rainbow of colors. She stopped for a moment for photos from her fans before retiring to her suite for a cool drink and afternoon nap. With the temperatures rising, the heat seemed to be getting to her but Buttercup never disappoints her fans. {Yes, we are crazy dog people!}

Let me introduce you to Kelsey from Pipsqueak and Petunia…
Tell us a bit about yourself
I’m Kelsey Golden and I run this fun business called Pipsqueak and Petunia, a line of handmade pet beds and accessories. I live just a couple of blocks from the ocean in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with my husband, our two cats, Truffle and Marzipan, and our dog, Bertie Bott. I have always loved animals and I am passionate about color and design, so starting a business that combined the two was a natural fit for me!
What inspires you?
So many things! The creativity of others, great music, travel. I’ve spent quite a bit of time in Asia over the past couple of years and I always come home inspired by a new culture. I’m currently having a love affair with India after visiting earlier this year. I also love looking through Flickr, Etsy, or Pinterest just to see all the amazing things creative people come up with! It may not directly inspire something I make, but it always renews my enthusiasm and gives me great ideas.
What’s the best thing about where you live?
We have a great little art museum in Myrtle Beach that I love to visit. There are only spaces for two or three exhibits at a time, but it is so well curated. You can really tell there’s a lot of love that goes into running the museum! My favorite exhibit was definitely the Quilts of Gees Bend. It was incredible! We also have a minor league baseball team here that I love to go watch. That’s my other favorite place in Myrtle Beach! Watching baseball is what I love to do when I need to recharge.
What’s on your playlist? Any favorite songs you listen to over and over?
Music is such a huge love for me. I love to sing and I’m always so much more motivated when I have something great playing! Neko Case, Ryan Adams, Mike Doughty, and Kay Hanley are what I’m most often listening to. I’ve also been listening to a lot of Ingrid Michaelson and Regina Spektor lately. Hotel Song by Regina Spektor is the one I can’t get enough of lately!

I LOVE the Large Dog or Cat Bed in Amy Butler’s Temple Tulips and Fuchsia Tree – we have two dogs and a cat – the largest is 100# Lab/Akita mix so a large bed is necessary, especially when all three decide they need to sleep together!

Growing up we rescued two daschund puppies from a litter of 12 when the mother was hit by a car and died! We fed them with an eye dropper and then bottle fed them until they were able to eat on their own. One of these was the runt of the litter, we named her “Tiny” – she was the sweetest pup and any animals that came to our home – from rabbits to a baby calf, she thought she needed to “Mother” them!

My favorite pet growing up was my cat Mozart. We got him from my piano teacher and called him Mo for short. He was the best cat!
He even responded to a clicker if he was outside and we wanted him in.
It’s so hard to pick just one, but I really like the Strawberry Lemonade collar! (Sprout, Cover, and Stained Glass are also really pretty!) I have a black doggy, so all those bright colors would really stand out against her sleek fur!

I have 3 dogs and 2 cats, so I don’t really have a favorite !! I do have to say that I have an extra special connection with my cat Teddy though… When i went to the local pound I had the intention of getting a kitten (who doesn’t want a kitten, right?!) When I walked past Teddy’s cage though, he grabbed my arm with his paw and I just knew in that instant that it was meant to be. He’s an orange tabby, and looks just like my childhood cat! I love him so much, he’s like my little baby he’s so snuggly and loves to give kisses to everyone!!! <33

My first dog is our current one. My mom was allergic to dogs growing up, so we never could get one as a kid. Now, we have a big, adorable golden retriever who fills our hearts every day with tons of love and happiness!

My favourite pet as a young child was my goldfish “superfish”. His name used to be “Gil” but then something happened. Once, when my parents when away, I was staying with my grandparents. They were transporting me and my fish back home and we had to stop at the supermarket on the way home. I left the bowl on the floor of the car in the shade and went in. When we came back out about half an hour later, Gil was not in his bowl! I found him under the floor mat. He had jumped out of his bowl (something he had never done and would never do again) and flopped under a lifted bit of rubber. I put him back into the bowl and he survived, not only that but lived in his wee bowl for about 2 years! MISS YOU SUPERFISH XOX

Besides the dogs I’ve owned, my favorite pet was a bunny I had when I was about six. His name was Snoopy and he lived on our 4 seasons porch. We had this huge cage for him to live in, and we let him roam around the porch during the day. There was an old arm chair rocker out there that used to be my grandfather’s and Snoopy decided to make it his home. He dug tunnels through the entire thing and hung out in there all day. My mom was NOT happy! haha!

My favorite pet as a child was my cat Precious. I longed for a cat for as long as I can remember and when I finally got my own little kitten I was in heaven. My favorite pet now is actually my daughter’s cat. My daughter apparently was born with the same cat loving genes and started asking for a kitten when she was only 2. We got her Cielo, a flame point himalayan, for potty training. He was 8 wks old and was brought up in the cuddling arms of a 3 year old. He is the sweetest, cuddliest cat ever.

I actually have two favorite pets, my Golden Retriever, Mickey, who passed away three years ago and his brother, Stanley, who is laying at my feet right now. Both of them are (were) the sweetest, gentlest beings I have ever known. They are the most faithful, loving companions.
