The second video will be released in a day or two. Just giving everyone enough time to see this first one, then we’ll email out video number two. If we sent you a direct link to this video in your email, or you’ve already confirmed your email address at http://EtsySuccessFormula.com you’ll get the second video link by email. If not, head to that link and confirm your email address to get on the right list.

Valuable information Tim/Kim — Thanks! Will you speak more on subscriber relationships? i.e.. I don’t use mail chimp yet but, would like to begin reaching out to followers w/ a monthly newsletter — Can I reach out to “followers” on etsy (inviting them to signup for my newsletter)? Or is that frowned upon? I have more followers on etsy than I do on Facebook/twitter so, it’s what comes to mind first. Thanks! -Ashleigh

Hi Ashleigh — We will get very deep into the specific steps you can/should take with people in your subscriber circle. The very next video will focus on getting people TO the Subscriber level, then we’ll go further in future videos. The eventual depth we’ll be teaching on the subject is extensive.

As to the second part of your question, I think reaching out to anyone, anywhere, and inviting them to join your email list or subscribe to you in any other way is a good thing for everyone involved. How you do it is important and you don’t want to send out any mass emails or convos that are not solicited but there are many many good ways to reach your followers on Etsy and elsewhere to convert them to subscribers.

It’s all about baby steps and working through the process in order, which is why we started here with the 5 circles and will move into the steps for each in the next video!

Thanks so much for putting together these videos! I watched this one earlier this morning and am looking forward to the others that are following behind this one.

I’m looking forward to all aspects of marketing, but am particularly interested in getting subscribers. I seem stuck trying to gain subscribers. I have a newsletter (though don’t get it out as regularly as I should… consistency may help, too?), but just can’t get many subscribers to that or my blog (which is still relatively new and moving slowly, but working towards more consistency there, too.) I know all these things take time, but since I’m not sure I’m moving in the right direction to begin with, I know these videos will be great to show what I’m doing that is right and what I need to change.

    THANKS!

Thanks so much for making this video! Although I have a “follow by email” box on my blog, I’d love to learn more about how to set up an email list for monthly or quarterly update emails. Do you have any recommendations for how to get that going and what you think works best? I noticed someone mentioned Mail Chimp, but I’m wondering if it can be as simple as subscribers sending your email address in an Etsy convo. Looking forward to the next video!

Great info! Thanks for doing this Tim and Kim! I do have several subscribers and have had lots of one-time customers, but also have had a few repeat customers. My question is how do I keep my subscribers and customers? How do I make sure they do not lose interest in my stuff over time? I do have a newsletter set up but I feel like I am always sending newsletters out only when I have a sale or promotion because I don’t know what else they are interested in. I sell bridal jewelry and lanyards (2 different Etsy shops) and I guess I just want to know how to keep my customers and subscribers interested. I’m sure you are probably going to get to this in your upcoming videos. Lol Thanks again! 🙂

I love this idea. It seems to be simple and to the point. I am anxious to hear the next video of specific steps to take. So often do people offer videos or books, etc… Saying they’ll show you great ways to improve your business, but no one ever gives specific steps that actually work! So I’m looking do forward to this as I have had my Etsy shop for 3 years now and have a little traffic but no where near what I would like! So thank you!!

They all seem like such easy steps and logical as well! I’ve been thinking lately about how to engage the public or followers more and your advice here would definitely be a help….now all I need is to get myself going! I’ve been rather stuck with my whole business for quite some months (well probably more than months!!) and keep signing up for different ‘things’ hoping that something would click and my mojo and interest would appear magically I think! d’oh! So of course have managed to overwhelm myself completely and am now very stuck! I’ve been thinking that I probably should just pick maybe one course of action and had thought it would be with the two of you coz you had made a lot of simple sense. Now after listening to you Tim and how easy and simplistic it all sounds I feel that it’s the right decision. So I now need to give it a good try…..or get out of the kitchen or craftroom maybe!!! lol.
Looking forward to the next video. btw, are these replacing the podcasts through Handmade Tickle or have I missed something or got it all wrong!?

    Thanks heaps, Pam 🙂

Thank you! I enjoyed your video and love that it feels as if I’m watching two of my friends sharing with me. I especially found it helpful to hear Tim’s version of “marketing is ok” and getting past the idea that it’s pushy, unfriendly, or intrusive. I need to remember that it’s not only necessary, but it’s often sought out and welcomed. I remind myself of the many times that I,ve found something (product, help, service, information) that I was thankful for because someone did some marketing to get it to me. Like this video!! Now for me, the key is getting to the point where I feel that I have something pulled together enough and ready to market — although I keep telling myself to stop planning and just take action! I can’t thank you enough for all that you both share in so many ways!

Awesome! Yes, marketing is alright! I found it a little hard to get started with sharing what I had for sale, but I saw others that did it and it was really paying off for them. I had to take baby steps. Then I really started to see a great response to what I was sharing and it was super exciting! You are helping people find the perfect gift or giving them something they want…its a win-win!

You do have to take action!!! We’ve been working on our Etsy Success Formula forever, but we always add something else and don’t just put it out there…we had to just go ahead and do it! Sometimes I guess we have to go with a little less than perfect…lol!

Tim and Kim, thank you for posting this video! That’s very generous of you guys.
“Vulnerability” is what comes to my mind when building relationships. I was told that it’s what gets people open up to each other. Though open to the idea, I’m still nervous about it. I notice my Zumba instructor is a great example in building this relationship with her Facebook followers. She is just being herself. She lets us in her ups and downs. We feel connected to her. She is that good, that I – out of the ordinary – started commenting on her posts. I’m curious about how much of that aspect is applicable to Etsy type of business. Thanks again.

      Hi Rosa!

I can relate to the vulnerability you’re talking about! When I first started working on my social media I felt so strange saying anything about myself. I slowly started adding bits and pieces mixed in with content I found interesting. I began to build some friendships that way, and then I didn’t feel quite so strange any longer. It really just takes practice! Instagram is an easy way to start…just share a photo of something going on in your world and then comment and like other photos. It can be fun…it really can! 🙂

Thanks for sharing your video. I’ve just opened my Etsy shop so it’s been helpful seeing this right at the start of what is hopefully going to be a successful selling season with (fingers crossed) many more to come. Look forward to seeing the next instalment. x

My daughter directed me to your site~ She is always forwarding ideas of things she thinks I will like. I have owned an interior decorating business for 39 years, but decided about a year ago I wanted to do something different. I love to embroidery and said I want to do that on the web–little did I know~ it was work along with stress on working with professionals to set up my website. Had it set up a couple of months now, and am paying the bill~ but have not done a thing with it. If you will~ it is stepping out of the box! It is definitely not the store front type of business I am use too. With all of the above being said, I have watched your first video, very informative and I am looking forward to video #2. Just FYI my daughter has a degree in corporate marketing. Thanking you for sharing.

      Hi Sandie!

I understand how hard it can be to get set up and on your way. It really doesn’t have to be the perfect set up to start making it work for your business. Sharing your work online through a blog is the best thing you can do to grow your business. It’s amazing how far you can reach. Just don’t stop! Share, share, share!

Thanks so much for your lovely comment! I hope you enjoy the rest of the videos!

Thank you for sharing this information.
I guess I kind of knew most of it before, but I like how you tied it all together and gave me a visual! I like visuals.
    Cheers!

    Hello Kim and Tim,

Thank you for a brilliant video. I have a handmade jewellery business and a ‘bit of a blog’. I sell through my own website but have also had an Etsy shop for just under a year. I was beginning to feel a bit despondent with Etsy as I have only had one sale, but listening to your video has made me realise that I need to look a bit at the bigger picture and not stress continually on sales, as I am positive they will start building up eventually.

My business has been running in-between raising three boys, the smallest one has just started nursery so I now have a little more daytime to focus on my business. I am loving all the support and help that there is available on Etsy forums etc. it is so down to Earth and achievable.

I will be following you on Twitter, pinterest, Facebook as i love to hear peoples stories and how they achieved their goals.

    Thanks Again
    Gail
