Just One Question — Organization

By Kim Layton 5 Comments

I have a new series where I’ll be asking Etsy seller “Just One Question” and posting it. Then we can all learn a little something from their experiences, or at least realize that we all have challenges.

Since we’re talking about organizing our crafty stuff all month, I thought the question should follow that theme.

Let’s ask Gussy a question! She’s a sweet friend of mine, and she’s always willing to play along. Just in case you don’t know about Gussy and all her awesome creations, check out her shop.

How do you keep all your fabric organized???

To keep my fabrics organized I have a four drawer cart from Ikea. I organize my fabrics by print or solid. Solids then get grouped together by color (pinks and reds/oranges, yellows and browns/blues and greens).

Then I have another section for custom order materials.

Then I have ANOTHER section for smaller scraps: they are great for making pockets, etc. I don’t keep anything that isn’t large enough to make into something else.

Wait. Yes, I do. But it goes into a large pile and then I sell it to someone that makes quilts, etc. 🙂

Thanks, Gussy! You made me want to run out to Ikea and check out what I need…ha!

I hope everyone is staying warm this weekend! There have been some great tips on organizing left in the comments this past week. I’d love to hear more, lots more. How do you store your fabric?

I just had to come up with a new way to store my fabric because we are losing our guest room/craft room to a long term guest. I chose to store them in some suit cases that are stacked up in my dining room. Sure, I can see them as easily as I used to, but it will be nice to have them handy since I sew on the dining room table anyway.

Oooh, now I want to go to IKEA, too! Although I’m heading there next weekend, I’ll have to see what I can find. 😉

    I love Ikea!

I keep all my bow making accessories in a rolling cart.

Unfortunately, I still haven’t found a way to store my fabrics in a handy place! I’m a beginner crafter, so I have very little fabric so far, but it’s starting to be too much for the nice little bag (about 6 inches x8) a friend of mine offered for Christmas 2007.
And I don’t have much space to put a storing cupboard either… so I’m thinking hard…
    Have a lovely crafty day!

I have sooooo much ribbon and I don’t know how to organize it. I have the normal rolls you can buy at the store but I also have the large bulk rolls. Anyone have any ideas on how to organize them?
