<p>There’s a chill in the air this morning and <strong>I am dreaming about beautiful quilts!</strong>  There’s something about the time and care that goes into a quilt, not to mention the fabulous fabric, that really makes them a treasure.</p>
<p>I actually don’t have much quilting ability, but I did manage to make a super simple quilt last year and it has turned out to be a family favorite.  One day I’ll have to take some classes or talk someone into to teaching me how to make beautiful quilts like in the ones in this post.</p>
<p>I’m constantly in awe over quilter’s ability to mix fabric of all different colors and patterns and come up with stunning results.  <strong>Quilts are simply a work of art.</strong>  Oh, and the keep you cozy at the same time…awesome!</p>
<p><a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/Quilt3.jpg"><img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px;" title="Quilt 3" src="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/Quilt3_thumb.jpg" alt="Quilt 3" width="470" height="705" border="0" /></a></p>
<p>You can find all the details about this lovely quilt over at <a href="http://www.aspoonfulofsugardesigns.com/2011/01/quilt-for-sarah.html" target="_blank">A Spoonful of Sugar</a>.  Great colors!!!</p>
<p align="center"><a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/freshcutquilt.jpg"><img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px;" title="freshcutquilt" src="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/freshcutquilt_thumb.jpg" alt="freshcutquilt" width="470" height="675" border="0" /></a> {<a href="http://blog.craftzine.com/archive/2007/05/heather_bailey_free_quilt_patt.html" target="_blank">Via Craft</a> – Heather Bailey Pattern}</p>
<p>Everyone knows Heather Bailey is extremely talented.  This one would look great in my house.  Can someone make me one?  It’s all bright with sweet ruffles…love it!</p>

</p><p>The thought of having every little crafty bit of paper, string and fabric all organized and ready when a moment of creativity strikes…oh, what a dream.</p>
<p><strong>Organizing supplies always gives me new ideas</strong> and makes me realize what cool stuff I already have available.  Sometimes I should just shop around my own closet before heading out to the store!  Am I the only one that ends up with 5 rolls of white ribbon???  I think not.</p>
<p><strong>Fabric is one of the biggest challenges!!!</strong></p>
<p>Take a look at these creative ways to organize fabric without adding on a room…</p>
<p><a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/rethinkdesignstudiosfabrics.jpg"><img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px;" title="rethinkdesignstudiosfabrics" src="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/rethinkdesignstudiosfabrics_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="rethinkdesignstudiosfabrics" width="400" height="600" /></a></p>
<p>Those little chalkboard tags make all the difference, don’t you think?!  <strong>I wish I could wake up tomorrow to this in my house!</strong></p>
<p><a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/0510warner09officemodernorganizedde2.jpg"><img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px;" title="0510-warner-09-office-modern-organized-de (2)" src="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/0510warner09officemodernorganizedde2_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="0510-warner-09-office-modern-organized-de (2)" width="440" height="562" /></a></p>
<p><strong>Style &amp; organization!</strong> These modern metal baskets rock…they sure beat my worn out old wicker ones!</p>
<p><a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/16fillyourjarswithprettiness.jpg"><img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px;" title="16 - fill your jars with prettiness." src="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/16fillyourjarswithprettiness._thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="16 - fill your jars with prettiness." width="470" height="352" /></a></p>
<p>There’s always a problem when you don’t want to throw away beautiful scraps of fabric.  <a href="http://ilikeorangetoo.blogspot.com/2011/06/sunday-school-for-sewing-pretty-scrap.html">I Like Orange</a> has an awesome solution.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/jars.jpg"><img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px;" title="jars." src="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/jars._thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="jars." width="470" height="352" /></a></p>
<p>Sorting in jars with like colors and covering the lid with matching fabric is <strong>super smart, easy and cheap!! </strong></p>
<p><a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/DSC05293.jpg"><img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px;" title="DSC05293" src="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/DSC05293_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="DSC05293" width="470" height="313" /></a></p>
<p>If you have a bunch of fabric {oh, I wish} around you might want to try <strong>organizing with foam boards</strong>.  You can easily secure your fabric right to the board with stick pins.  <a href="http://maluukkonen.blogspot.com/">The Little Green Bean</a> shares all the creative details.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/fabricstorage.jpg"><img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px;" title="fabric storage" src="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/fabricstorage_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="fabric storage" width="470" height="311" /></a></p>
<p>One of my favorites from <a href="http://hollysstreet.blogspot.com/2009/07/fabric-organization.html">Holly’s Street</a>!  Whoa…that’s all I can say!</p>

<p>SkyeReve Fabrics always has a great selection of new designs and you’re going to love this peek into Natasha’s shop.  You can easily shop by color or them to find the perfect fabric for your next project.  Be warned, you could end up with a serious designer fabric addiction after this…ha!</p>

<p><strong>Who doesn’t love </strong><a href="http://www.skyerevefabrics.com/new-arrivals/aqua-and-red"><strong>aqua and red fabric</strong></a><strong>?? </strong>{anyone??  I didn’t think so.}  I can see dresses, pillows, headbands and quilts in my mind already.  Michael Miller created a fabulous selection of brightly colored fabrics to help you sew up something beautiful.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/0123.jpg"><img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px;" title="012 (3)" src="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/0123_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="012 (3)" width="470" height="418" /></a></p>
<p>Isn’t this <a href="http://www.skyerevefabrics.com/new-arrivals/appleville/appleville-fat-quarter-bundle">Appleville Fat Quarter Bundle</a> cute?  This fabric just makes me smile.  This would make a cute child’s dress…or maybe even one for me.  Hmmm…I better stick to a headband for myself because I wouldn’t want to throw anyone into cute overload when they see me.:)</p>

<p>I love anything  <a href="http://www.skyerevefabrics.com/new-arrivals/hullabaloo/jubilee-in-grey">grey and yellow</a> lately.  This sweet flower fabric would look wonderful in my bedroom.</p>

<p>You are going to love this dreamy craft room <span style="color: #008000;"><strong>all the way from Japan</strong></span>!  I don’t even know how I found <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/cottonblue">Cotton Blue</a> this today, but it made my morning looking at her beautiful photos!</p>
<p>I have a love of <strong>all </strong>distressed furniture and when you paint it in lovely shades of blue and green my heart goes all <em>pitter patter</em>!</p>
<p><span style="color: #008000;"><strong>Here’s the recipe for a beautiful craft room…</strong></span></p>
<p><a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/ScreenHunter_01Oct.1311.49.gif"><img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px;" title="ScreenHunter_01 Oct. 13 11.49" src="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/ScreenHunter_01Oct.1311.49_thumb.gif" border="0" alt="ScreenHunter_01 Oct. 13 11.49" width="470" height="513" /></a></p>
<p>Start with some amazing fabric all stacked and ready to use…</p>
<p><a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/ScreenHunter_04Oct.1311.56.gif"><img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px;" title="ScreenHunter_04 Oct. 13 11.56" src="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/ScreenHunter_04Oct.1311.56_thumb.gif" border="0" alt="ScreenHunter_04 Oct. 13 11.56" width="470" height="606" /></a></p>
<p>Throw in lots and lots of it with ribbon, a dash of lace, and a sprinkle of other fun goodies…</p>
<p><a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/ScreenHunter_05Oct.1311.58.gif"><img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px;" title="ScreenHunter_05 Oct. 13 11.58" src="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/ScreenHunter_05Oct.1311.58_thumb.gif" border="0" alt="ScreenHunter_05 Oct. 13 11.58" width="470" height="330" /></a></p>
<p>Add an amazing desk to work at…</p>
<p><span style="color: #008000;"><strong>And you get this fabulous craft room that’s out-of-this-world spectacular!</strong></span></p>
<p><a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/ScreenHunter_02Oct.1311.50.gif"><img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px;" title="ScreenHunter_02 Oct. 13 11.50" src="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/ScreenHunter_02Oct.1311.50_thumb.gif" border="0" alt="ScreenHunter_02 Oct. 13 11.50" width="470" height="362" /></a></p>
<p>You can all stop drooling now and head over to her <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/cottonblue">Etsy shop</a> {currently on vacation&#8230;sorry} where you’ll find tons of pretty things that you NEED.</p>

<p><strong>Isn’t this a dreamy bunch of wool roving?</strong> I wanted to take it all home!</p>
<p>The other day I was lucky enough to notice that the <strong>Southwest Florida Quilt Festival</strong> was going on at the Convention Center here in Punta Gorda.  It’s so close I can walk!</p>
<p>This is my first quilt festival and I was amazed at the crowd.  It was packed full of people of all ages…no offense, but I thought quilting was more popular among retired people that have more time.  I’ve noticed since having this blog that <strong>quilting is hot!</strong></p>
<p>I love all the designer quilting fabrics and I even made a very simple quilt of my own last year.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/hulagirlquilt.jpg"><img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;" title="hula girl quilt" src="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/hulagirlquilt_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="hula girl quilt" width="470" height="698" /></a></p>
<p>They had a huge silent auction and I decided to bid on this fun hula girl quilt, but of course I didn’t get it.</p>
<p>I learned that taking photos at a quilt show is super challenging, and I know it has to be a ton of work for all the vendors to set up all their fabulous fabric.  They do a great job of displaying quilt kits and new fabric.  <strong>I’m always attracted to those Moda jelly rolls and layer cakes…love them!</strong></p>
<p><a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/cakequilt.jpg"><img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;" title="cake quilt" src="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/cakequilt_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="cake quilt" width="470" height="627" /></a></p>
<p>Here’s a fun quilt that had to take FOREVER to finish…<strong>very cute!</strong></p>
<p>Once my feet were starting to hurt I decided to walk home.  Our weather has been outstanding for a couple weeks here so we walk whenever we can.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/redflower1.jpg"><img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;" title="red flower 1" src="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/redflower1_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="red flower 1" width="470" height="392" /></a></p>
<p>I found a couple flowers on the way home that I would love to have in my yard, but I don’t know what they are…<strong>can you help</strong>???</p>
<p>They are both vines growing on a fence and the flowers were just beautiful!  The red ones were so big!</p>
<p><a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/purpleflowers1.jpg"><img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;" title="purple flowers 1" src="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/purpleflowers1_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="purple flowers 1" width="470" height="352" /></a></p>
<p>These purple ones were growing right next to the red ones.  Any ideas on the names of these?</p>
<p><strong>Oh, and let’s not forget what I bought at the quilt show…</strong></p>
<p><a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/apron1.jpg"><img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;" title="apron 1" src="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/apron1_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="apron 1" width="470" height="684" /></a></p>
<p><strong>A sweet little apron for $10!</strong> I couldn’t pass it up!</p>
<p><strong>Do you have any photos of quilts you’ve made?</strong> Leave a link in the comments, I’d love to see them!  Anyone know the name of these flowers? <img src='http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>~Kim</p>
<p>*The Southwest Florida Quilt Festival is a biennial show by the <a href="http://www.peaceriverquilters.org">Peace River Quilters’ Guild</a>.  They do a fabulous job!</p>

<p>Since I&#8217;ve been blogging I&#8217;ve found that bloggers are so very generous when it comes to sharing free tutorials, and I feel as though it&#8217;s time for me to give back to the blogging community! So here it goes, my very first tutorial&#8230;a <strong>Fabric Kindle Cover Tutorial</strong>!</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Materials</span></p>
<ul>
<li>Outside Fabric: (1) 9” x 17.5&#8243;</li>
<li>Cotton Flannel (Lining): (1) 9” x 17.5”</li>
<li>Quilt Batting: (1) 9” x 17.5”</li>
<li>Binding Fabric: 2.25” x 45”</li>
<li>Thread</li>
<li>Water Soluble Pen</li>
<li>Velcro (optional): 2 ½”</li>
</ul>
<p>Kindle measurements: 8” x 5.3” (per <a href="http://www.amazon.com">www.amazon.com</a>)</p>
<p><a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/1187_Photo2.jpg"><img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px;" title="1187_Photo 2" src="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/1187_Photo2_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="1187_Photo 2" width="470" height="352" /></a></p>
<p>1. Cut out three rectangles, using a cotton print fabric for the outside fabric (9” x 17.5”), quilt batting for the middle layer (9” x 17.5”), and a solid cotton flannel fabric for the lining (9” x 17.5”), as the flannel will not scratch your Kindle.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/1190_Photo3.jpg"><img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px;" title="1190_Photo 3" src="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/1190_Photo3_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="1190_Photo 3" width="470" height="352" /></a></p>
<p>2. Place the outside fabric with the wrong side facing up, quilt batting, and cotton flannel (lining) with right side facing up.</p>
<p>3. With a water soluble pen, draw a horizontal line 6” from the bottom of the outside fabric and stitch on top of the inked line, creating the Kindle pocket. Note- if the outside fabric is too dark to see the water soluble marking (as shown above), draw the horizontal line on the cotton flannel (lining).</p>
<p><a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/1194_Photo4.jpg"><img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px;" title="1194_Photo 4" src="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/1194_Photo4_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="1194_Photo 4" width="470" height="352" /></a></p>
<p>4. Fold and press the binding in half lengthwise. With raw edges matching, sew the binding along the top edge of the pocket with a ¼” seam allowance. Fold over the remaining binding and stitch.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/1197_Photo4a.jpg"><img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px;" title="1197_Photo 4a" src="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/1197_Photo4a_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="1197_Photo 4a" width="470" height="627" /></a></p>
<p><a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/1200_Photo5.jpg"><img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px;" title="1200_Photo 5" src="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/1200_Photo5_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="1200_Photo 5" width="470" height="352" /></a></p>
<p>5. Fold the bottom of the Kindle cover at the 6” line, with right side facing up, forming a pocket. Baste around the three exposed sides with a 1/8” seam allowance.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/1206_Photo6a.jpg"><img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px;" title="1206_Photo 6a" src="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/1206_Photo6a_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="1206_Photo 6a" width="470" height="468" /></a></p>
<p>6. Beginning at the bottom left hand corner, fold up the binding ½”, creating a ‘finished’ edge and attach the binding with a ¼” seam allowance to the right side of the outside fabric. When approaching the corners, make sure to stop ¼” from the corner, lift your needle and presser foot and fold the binding up onto itself. Fold the binding down again, aligning the raw edges and resume stitching.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/1210_Photo6b.jpg"><img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px;" title="1210_Photo 6b" src="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/1210_Photo6b_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="1210_Photo 6b" width="470" height="470" /></a></p>
<p><a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/1211_Photo6.jpg"><img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px;" title="1211_Photo 6" src="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/1211_Photo6_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="1211_Photo 6" width="470" height="470" /></a></p>
<p><a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/1218_Photo7.jpg"><img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px;" title="1218_Photo 7" src="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/1218_Photo7_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="1218_Photo 7" width="470" height="352" /></a></p>
<p>7. Fold over the remaining binding, enclosing the raw edges, and complete with a straight stitch, making sure to neatly miter the corners.</p>
<p>8. As an option, Velcro can be added to insure that the Kindle is secure.Stitch the male side of the Velcro ¾” from the top of the pocket, centered. Repeat with the female side of the Velcro 2 5/8” from the top of the flap.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/1220_Photo9.jpg"><img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px;" title="1220_Photo 9" src="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/1220_Photo9_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="1220_Photo 9" width="470" height="352" /></a></p>
<p><strong>9. Enjoy!</strong></p>
<p><a href="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/1223_Photo1.jpg"><img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px;" title="1223_Photo 1" src="http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/1223_Photo1_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="1223_Photo 1" width="470" height="352" /></a></p>
