Organize Your Craft Room – 8 Quick DIY Projects

There’s always a new idea or two that can help you organize your craft room and all those fabulous craft supplies you LOVE!  Every few months I have to organize a little more because I keep adding to my collection of craft goodies and projects.

Good or bad, whatever…my twine, felt and other sparkly stuff makes me happy.  So, I am constantly on the hunt for creative ideas using items I might already have around the house or quick projects that take minutes to make a huge difference…you gotta love those!

{Mason Jar Craft Storage – It All Started With Paint}

This is an awesome idea for those little items that you don’t want to hide away in a drawer…not that I would do that!  Well, maybe I have a drawer full of tiny goodies with no home.  Crafty people aren’t always the most organized, right???

{DIY Twine Holder – WhimseyBox}

What a beautiful idea for keeping your twine out and easy to use!  I like just looking at this.  It makes me want to wrap a package all pretty with twine and a cute tag.

Where’s your twine at right now?  This might be just what you need!

{Fabric Covered Memo Boards – Sew Much Sunshine}

These fabric covered memo boards take minutes, cost just a few dollars, and make your wall look happy…enough said!

{Mason Jar Twine Holders – Acasarella}

I have a thing for mason jars, but I don’t think I’m alone in that!  I love everything about these twine holders!  It’s a simple project that would look great in any style of craft room.

{Nesting Boxes – Casa Crafty}

Nesting boxes are a beautiful addition to any craft room and they really can help you stay organize and keep the clutter under control.  I do much better with organization when I have pretty containers to work with, don’t you???

{Hanging Fabric Storage Basket – The Mother Huddle}

Hang your patterns in a nifty hanging basket…you know you want one of these somewhere!

This is a quick sewing project that’s sure to make you feel like you accomplished something big.  Why use up your valuable desk space for patterns when you can hang them!

{Chalkboard Craft Dresser – The Gunny Sack}

You might already have a dresser of some sort in your craft room.  Do you know what’s in every drawer?

This is a cute and creative way to decorate and organize at the same time.  Oh, and it’s always fun to use a little chalkboard paint here and there!

{Baker’s Twine Holder – Damask Love}

Pretty, pretty, pretty!  I wish I had that much baker’s twine, but maybe this is a reason to buy more!  Isn’t this a beautiful way to organize?

Organizing ribbon can be a challenge!  There are so many creative ways to store and display your pretty ribbon, so don’t just hide it in a box or drawer.  Organize it in a beautiful way!

Make Your Own Craft Supplies!

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about crafty people it’s that they can make just about anything!  You can save money by making supplies yourself, get exactly the color you want, or just be able to whip up some baker’s twine without having to run to the store.

Making your own craft supplies rocks!  Try some of these cool DIY tutorials…

You know you want some of this beautiful tape…well, make it!  Cathe Holden {one of my favorite bloggers} shares how she created this fabulous decorative tape.  It all starts with pretty wrapping paper and double-side mounting adhesive.  Easy Peasy!

Cathe also designed these cool printable handmade labels that you can download right here on Everything Etsy.  Stick one on everything you create!!!!

Recycle and old t-shirt and learn how to cut continuous t-shirt yarn at Releve Design.

Laura Beth from A Step in the Journey made her own baker’s twine…get out of town…it’s so cool!

Make Geo Clay Beads and design your own jewelry.  That’s what I call HANDMADE!

What a pretty and useful sewing tool caddy!  You can find all the details at Flamingo Toes…you’ll love this super creative blog.

This is a fun project…DIY pencils from Scissors.Paper.Wok – I could use a bunch of these on my desk.

Everyone loves pom poms!  Learn how to make Mini Pom Poms from twine with Meet Me At Mikes and The Baker’s Twine.  You can’t have too many.

Storybook Paper Flower Tutorial are perfect for wreaths, bouquets and so much more.  You’ll find easy instructions at 100 Layer Cake.  I would love to add a few of these to a hanging lantern we have…the possibilities are endless.

Create chalkboard paint in any color {A Beautiful Mess} in no time at all!  Ya gotta love that.

Craft supplies can take over your crafty space!  I have the hardest time with supplies because I’m a seriously messy crafter!  I spread stuff everywhere when I’m working on a project and cute storage ideas make a world of difference to me when it’s time to straighten up.

I thought I’d share some creative ideas I found when searching for new ways to organize my own space.

1.  Painted pastel glass jars are awesome for holding all your pencils, markers and paint brushes!  Check out this great tutorial at kootut murut!  Reuse those old jars and make one-of-a-kind beauties like these in any color you want!

2.  Craftaholics Anonymous has a beautiful new craft room and the way she organizes her fabric is FABULOUS!!!  Don’t you love the way the it hangs where you can see it?!  I hate to take beautiful fabric and stash it in a box or basket.  This is so much more inspiring!  You can see all the creative details of this crafty space here.

3.  Create your own Sewing Thread Organizer!  Now that’s organized!!!  You should see me with my basket of thread…it’s really kinda scary.  The Creative Homemaker explains all the details here.

4.  Shabby Chic tin cans are one of my favorite finds ever!  Check out Shabby Chic Inspired for more information on these sweet shabby organizers created from basic tin cans.  They are stunning!

5.  Display your supplies and keep them in reach and as pretty craft room decor at the same time…I love this look!  {Lamaison d’Anna G}

6.  I know you have an old frame around somewhere!  Add a little paint and some hanging wooden dowels to organize your lovely stash of ribbon.  You can find the instructions on Scrapbooks Etc.

7.  Why didn’t I think of this?!  Use letter holders for a beautiful way to store your fabric…so smart!  {Design Mom – Jamie Diersing}

8.  This might not hold that much but it sure looks cute!  Take an old ladle, drill and hole in the handle and bend it to the perfect shape.  How original!  {instructions at Country Home}

9.  Reusing jars is a great way to save some money!  Just screw small embroidery hoops to the wall and adjust them to hold your jars tightly.  Love it!

10.  Shoe organizers are awesome space savers!  Pens, paintbrushes and so many other craft supplies fit in those pouches and stay in an easy to reach spot.

11.  Make It and Love It created these fabric covered cardboard boxes!  They’re Perfect!!  You’ll find more beautiful photos here.

It’s been one of those action packed holidays around here and I am looking forward to the routine of a normal week again!

I hope you had a wonderful time with friends and family!

I, of course, started a new project in the middle of everything that was going on…ha!  I always want to crochet something as the temperature drops, but my skills are very limited to put it lightly.

While we were camping {in our new vintage trailer that rocks} I looked up an awesome ripple blanket tutorial that I’ll share with you later.  I had a bit of time to start and start over again multiple times until I finally got it!  Yay!!!  I was so excited I took photos.  {Isn’t that the way it is for bloggers?}

So, in between Christmas and camping I managed to crochet this…

I love, love, love the pretty colors of this yarn!  It will be much larger but you get the idea.  It’s a little challenging teaching yourself new skills!

I would love a craft room that’s organized and functional for every craft idea I come up with, but I REALLY want it to be beautiful! I don’t care if it’s a closet or an attic! I crave the inspiration that comes from sitting in a space that makes me feel creative and happy.

So, here’s a bit of inspiration for you…

I am addicted to baskets of all shapes and size!  How could you NOT love these vintage wire baskets?!

Organizing your craft room can make a world of difference when you start your next project.  You’ll know what you have and won’t make unnecessary trips to the store or buy something you have but can’t find!  {I might have a bit of experience with that…ha!}

Vintage suitcases are one of my favorite things. I don’t even know how that happened. Maybe it’s my love of travel, or the thought of far away cities the suitcase may have visited over the years. For whatever reason, I adore them and you’ll find photos of them over here on a regular basis.

They’re a great storage option for those items you don’t want to see all the time. {I have my share of those!}

{Madame Cupcake}

Craft supplies are beautiful and when you put them on display!  All white buttons in a vintage candy machine is enough to make me yell for everyone in the house to come take a look.  But, I do live in a house full of boys so they wouldn’t understand.

Seriously, who wouldn’t want this??  I love it!

{Country Living}

Just about anything can be used to display supplies, right down to the tiny ones.  This is a cool way to use old spoons that don’t match or were lost in a drawer.  Cute!

I recently bought some tiny clothespins and added a bit of embroidery thread to them.  I’ve only wrapped three or four so far…it’s a time consuming project!

I ran across these buttons on Pinterest and I had to share them with you.  I could add these to every project of mine for a year and not get tired of them.

These are amazing and I really need a giant glass jar full of them.  Is there a craft fairy that could help me with that? 

Visit Mamie Jane’s to see the booth display she is working on right now.  These are paint sticks with ribbon and trim wound around and pinned.  It’s so creative and a great way to keep them organized!

Sometimes I find supplies that are almost too pretty to use and it helps to just display them for awhile until the right project comes along.  I have a craft supply thing, for sure!

The thought of having every little crafty bit of paper, string and fabric all organized and ready when a moment of creativity strikes…oh, what a dream.

Organizing supplies always gives me new ideas and makes me realize what cool stuff I already have available.  Sometimes I should just shop around my own closet before heading out to the store!  Am I the only one that ends up with 5 rolls of white ribbon???  I think not.

Fabric is one of the biggest challenges!!!

Style & organization! These modern metal baskets rock…they sure beat my worn out old wicker ones!

There’s always a problem when you don’t want to throw away beautiful scraps of fabric.  I Like Orange has an awesome solution.

Sorting in jars with like colors and covering the lid with matching fabric is super smart, easy and cheap!!

If you have a bunch of fabric {oh, I wish} around you might want to try organizing with foam boards.  You can easily secure your fabric right to the board with stick pins.  The Little Green Bean shares all the creative details.
