Creative Organizing {I need it!}

I’m always looking for new ways to organize and change things up a bit. Pretty organized craft supplies seriously make me happy. So, here’s some of the newest and coolest ideas out there, and I’m sure there’s one you can make this afternoon. Many are made with supplies you might already have at home.

These frosted mason jars are an awesome way to organize…make some for yourself in minutes! You can find out all the details from Happy Hooligans!

Organize all those annoying cords with this simple idea from Our Thrifty Ideas. All you need are some toilet paper rolls and some cute washi tape. Another reason to buy tons of cool washi tape in every color…that’s my kind of organization project.

Recycle cans and use them for all those little things that you really want available and looking organized at the same time. That can be a challenge!

These cans have heavy duty magnets hot glued to the back so they can hang on the metal cookie sheet on the wall. Cute and inexpensive!

One Thrifty Chick shares how she keeps her fabric organized…that’s a constant problem in my life!

I’ve shared lots of fabric organization ideas here, here and here. Maybe you’ll find just the right idea for you there. I keep all sizes of fabric, so it can get a little tricky trying to store it.

These DIY cereal box drawer dividers are adorable! I soooo need to do this…my kitchen has one super scary junk drawer that needs a little love. Do you have a drawer like that??? Please say you do…lol!

DIY Organization Ideas

Can you ever have too many ideas to help organize? I think not! My craft supplies get out of control on a regular basis…creativity and organization don’t always go together easily for me.

I’ve gone through phases of plastic containers, wicker baskets and more. Now I look for ways to use up scrap fabric, cardboard, or other ways to mix a little creativity in my supply storage.

Here are some of the latest ideas I’ve found…

Aren’t these the cutest little fabric buckets ever??? I love them! They’re easy to make and you can match any room in your house.

Scrapbooking Spaces – Summer Memories

It’s that time of year when you snap lots and lots of photos during your summer trips and pool parties. You’ll need your scrapbooking supplies in order to easily share those fun summer memories.

There’s something about having all my supplies organized and looking pretty that makes me a tad more creative. It also helps for me to create while I’m in the mood and not lose interest while looking for just the right ribbon. What can I say…I’m easily distracted!

Scrapbooking areas like this one can keep your pretty papers right in reach. You don’t have to get all crazy with the latest gadgets and trends in organization to have a simply creative space. A few fresh flowers never hurt!

Don’t you hate how hard it is to keep your collection of ribbon looking nice and easy to use? It can be so hard to handle!! This has always been one of my favorite organization ideas for ribbon.

Use cheap floss containers! Just wrap ribbon around the paper spools and organize by color…perfect!

A basement turned beautiful with lots of space for this and that…I love the two workspaces! Modular cubes can do wonders for creating a space that works just right for you.

I’m planning to use a photo box to organize some of my summer photos. Double prints makes it easy for me to have just the right photos on hand when I need them.

Lots of Fabric Storage Ideas – Organize It!

13 Ideas to Organize Your Fabric!

Fabric can seriously take over a room…or two! Great organization is required to keep everything where you can find it when inspiration strikes. So many of you have said that fabric storage is one of your biggest organizational challenges. It’s definitely one of mine!

Right now I have my extra fabric in a box in the closet. I dig through it when I want to find something. Don’t judge…I’m working on it!

Don’t you love this photo from Retro Mama?! I could just sit and stare at this fabric stacked so pretty. I must admit that I’ve tried to do this, but I’m not capable of folding fabrics and keeping them all the same size. I know, it’s sad. So for now I’ll just have to enjoy photos of fabric displayed so nice and neat.

The Cottage Home explains how she creates this pretty and organized room with some help from a fabric storage product. It looks beautiful!

There must be a billion creative ways to organize fabric! Whether you make hair accessories, home decor, or clothing, we all need to have great fabric storage. There’s nothing like digging through a box of wrinkled fabric to lose your motivation for starting a new project.

Turn a bookshelf on it’s side! This is a attached to a wall for extra storage space. What a cool space-saving idea! Just add your favorite fabric.

Film and Thread had this beautiful photo of hanging fabric. How neat and organized. I don’t usually buy that much of each fabric, but this seems like a great idea to save on ironing later. Anything that helps with ironing is a winner in my book!

What do you think about this? I love, love, love the idea of storing fabric in vintage suitcases!

I have two of these beauties that I’ve been dying to use for sometime special. And I’m planning on printing out some of these sweet little labels from Just Something I Made. Go download some for yourself!

Cut Out and Keep has a great download to help you remember what fabric you have. Hmmm…anyone out there have this problem? I can’t wait to do this…talk about organized! Woo hoo!

This way I’ll know exactly the colors I need when I find a sale. That’s important!

Create custom fabric storage bins with cheap plastic storage containers. Follow this great tutorial and you’ll be able to match any room in your house. What a cool way to stash your fabric here, there and everywhere!

I found this great idea (above) on Craft. Make chalkboard hangers to store your fabric on the wall. It looks great and it works…what a winning combination.

This system of wooden dowels fits right behind the door. Film and Thread made fabulous use of her space. Think of all the space you have behind doors…do you have anything stored there? Maybe you should!

Sew Many Ways files her fabric! She just cuts a hanging folder in half and drapes her folded fabric over it. Organized and beautiful!

Here’s a look at some of my stash! I use baskets for most of my supplies. They look great on the shelf, and I can easily separate everything and keep it close to me. I can grab what I need without getting up. {Hmmm…maybe I should move it away for more exercise.} I hardly moved to take these photos, so that explains the poor lighting!

The basket on the left is full of beautiful felt. I enjoy seeing all those pretty colors when I start to design a new felt pattern. They used to be organized by color, but I gave up on that. I can only be organized up to a certain point, y’all!

The second basket has small pieces of fabric that I keep in individual plastic bags. Why, you might ask? Well, I only use a couple tiny circles of fabric when I make ponytail holders. That leaves me with fabric that’s cut all funny and doesn’t fold nicely. YUCK! I started folding each one in a bag, and it worked for me. I can easily look through them to find the one I need, and they’re much more manageable.

I didn’t show you my third basket. It’s full of slightly larger fabrics, and it looks very similar to the first basket. That’s for my lavender sachets that you can see in the top photo.

I did just sell a whole box {over 6 pounds} of fabric on Etsy. It was stashed away in the closet. I knew I wouldn’t use it and I was just hanging onto it…tightly. I let it go!

I haven’t mentioned drawers yet, and they are a wonderful way to store fabric. Maybe that’s why they have been selling them for clothing all these years. A Pocket Full of Licorice shares her fabric collection in this photo.

You can even use old, individual drawers for storage. I’m sure you can find a few at a garage sale near you. If they’re ugly, just spray paint them!

If you can’t fit your fabric collection in your room anymore, this idea is for you! I’ve always wanted a bathtub like this, and when you load it up with fabric it starts to look even better! I found this photo on flickr and I thought it might be helpful to some of you.

Let’s get organized! Whenever I organize and update my craft room I end up finding lots of beautiful supplies that I forgot about can’t wait to try. I feel much more creative working in a clean area and all those long lost supplies inspire me to get CRAFTY!

12. Take a look at these beautiful canvas storage bins I found at Holly’s Street. I use baskets for storage, but this looks so much better. Don’t you love how pretty the colors look popping out of the top? I could have some fun with this little collection of fabric!

13. Great shelves rock! Can you have too many shelves?? I think not! I could use a different section for each project I’m working on these days! It seems like I never have enough time to complete something all at one time. I know I’m not alone with that!

I’ve also seen stacked shoe organizers used to create a bunch of cubbies in small areas. Try a couple for your craft room or closet.

17. The Sometimes Crafter will show you how to make these cute fabric scrap baskets. I hate to throw away pieces I might be able to use later. They’re a great way to store some of those fabric scraps you’re saving!

18. Visit Mamie Jane’s to see the booth display she’s working on. These are paint sticks with ribbon and trim wound around and pinned. It’s so creative and a great way to keep them organized!

19. Use vintage finds for unique storage containers! Hang an old lunch box and use it for little supplies. This is a great creative space! I love the three-tier basket that’s perfect for ribbon or stamps…I seriously need one! {bhg.com}

22 Tips to Organize Your Craft Room

Craft supplies can take over your crafty space! I have the hardest time with supplies because I’m a seriously messy crafter! I spread stuff everywhere when I’m working on a project and cute storage ideas make a world of difference to me when it’s time to straighten up.

I thought I’d share some creative ideas I found when searching for new ways to organize my own space.

1. Painted pastel glass jars are awesome for holding all your pencils, markers and paint brushes! Check out this great tutorial at kootut murut! Reuse those old jars and make one-of-a-kind beauties like these in any color you want!

2. Craftaholics Anonymous has a beautiful new craft room and the way she organizes her fabric is FABULOUS!!! Don’t you love the way the it hangs where you can see it?! I hate to take beautiful fabric and stash it in a box or basket. This is so much more inspiring! You can see all the creative details of this crafty space here.

3. Create your own Sewing Thread Organizer! Now that’s organized!!! You should see me with my basket of thread…it’s really kinda scary. The Creative Homemaker explains all the details here.

4. Shabby Chic tin cans are one of my favorite finds ever! Check out Shabby Chic Inspired for more information on these sweet shabby organizers created from basic tin cans. They are stunning!

5. Display your supplies and keep them in reach and as pretty craft room decor at the same time…I love this look! {Lamaison d’Anna G}

6. I know you have an old frame around somewhere! Add a little paint and some hanging wooden dowels to organize your lovely stash of ribbon. You can find the instructions on Scrapbooks Etc.

7. Why didn’t I think of this?! Use letter holders for a beautiful way to store your fabric…so smart! {Design Mom – Jamie Diersing}

8. This might not hold that much but it sure looks cute! Take an old ladle, drill and hole in the handle and bend it to the perfect shape. How original! {instructions at Country Home}

9. Reusing jars is a great way to save some money! Just screw small embroidery hoops to the wall and adjust them to hold your jars tightly. Love it!

10. Shoe organizers are awesome space savers! Pens, paintbrushes and so many other craft supplies fit in those pouches and stay in an easy to reach spot.
