In The Kitchen

GussyI’m so excited to share the following post from Gussy, who blogs at Gussy Has A lot To Say, when she’s not busy with work, life, and sewing great ruffled wallets at Maggie Whitley.

You’ll be seeing a bit more of Gussy here on Everything Etsy because she’s agreed to be a regular contributor to the blog! Enjoy!
I didn’t realize how much I would enjoy cooking and baking until I became a wife. Prior to my new status, I lived on my own. I cooked for myself, and let’s be honest, it’s way more fun when you can cook for a crowd {or at least a grateful husband}. I soon realized I love all the little gadgets, bowls, and kitchen accessories available.

What made me love them? Why, the colors they came in. And the textures. And the different sizes. And…

See, I could go on and on.

My husband and I recently moved to Minneapolis. We were warned approximately 385 times it’s cold there, but since we came from Michigan and grew up near the Great Lakes, we figured we could handle it ;) So far, so good.

Check back in February?

Since the cold weather has settled, it’s time to be on the look-out for yummy tea. Soon-enough I’ll enjoy a big mug, and wouldn’t it be so fun to use this tea-bag holder? I can’t imagine anything more perfect to use on a cold, winter day :)

Something equally fun to use in the kitchen is a colorful bowl. I’ll admit it, sometimes I dirty extra dishes just so I can use them while cooking. I suppose that might not be fair for whoever is on clean-up, but it makes cooking lots of fun! I use a bowl for collecting my cut-up items; for scraps; for mixing. Anything to stay organized, right?!

I love to prepare food using a unique piece of fired clay, and I absolutely love something glossy and bright. I took a few pottery classes in college so I can appreciate the art.

When the kitchen is cleaned up and put to rest, nothing makes me more happy {ok, maybe a few things can make me happy} than a coordinating collection of nesting bowls. But only if they’re being used, of course! Fruit, vegetables, dried pieces of nature — all perfect for the kitchen counter. This beautiful set of nesting bowls is high up on my “I want” list :)

{pinwheel nesting bowls}

Speaking of colored bowls and nesting, here is a set that is all things fun! What a lovely little trio! Each bowl has many, many uses in the kitchen. Prepping scrambled eggs, a trash bowl, mixing dry ingredients for a soon-to-be baked item, mixing Italian-style meatloaf, cut-up vegetables or fruit. See, give me something pretty to use and I could find endless uses.

Raspberry, lavender, orange, and custard. All lovely colors. All lovely colors in this lovely set. If I had these in my ruffle-sewing little hands I’d use them for Baked Apple Crisp, or cereal, or to house some M&Ms, or butterscotch pudding, or maybe a tasty dipping sauce? See, many uses. Wouldn’t these be lovely in an open-cupboard setting? Imagine if you had a coordinating set in cream, tan, blue and green… Ohh, the possibilities!

{Pampered Red Biscuit Bowl Quartet}

Being that it’s just me and my husband in our Minneapolis apartment, rarely can we eat the fresh fruit fast enough. Although I almost always have a big fruit bowl on the kitchen counter… Regardless, this wooden bowl is just beautiful! It looks so smooth, I want to run my hand across the inside. Do you keep a fruit bowl on the counter? You know what else this could be used for? {Don’t gasp at me…} A catch-all for keys, junk mail, the garage door opener, maybe a child’s favorite toy or two.

Kitchen gadgets are great because they can often have many uses, and they don’t have to be confined to the kitchen.

I’m kind of agreeing with Zack right now. =) Gussy, you’re so fun! All of these finds are soooo great! And that must be why you tweeted the poppy bowl shop yesterday. ;D

I did want to add that Gussy is only taking custom orders until November 14th! She’s working on one for me right now! :) http://www.maggiewhitley.com

PaintMeAPicture – Love the wooden bowls! I had a fish bowl in my kitchen for years to catch keys and phones. I do have a fruit bowl, and when the fruit gets old I just feed it to our tortoise. Ha!

Thanks for joining Everything Etsy, Gussy!

I love Pyrex. I use to have quite a few different bowl designs. But over the years they have gotten broken.

Welcome to Everything Etsy!!
